Today in Hip Hop News, authorities captured accused members of a narcotics trafficking ring who sold Michael K. Williams fentanyl-laced heroin.
Four suspects have been arrested for their claimed roles in Michael K. Williams' killing.
Irvin Cartagena, Hector Robles, Luiz Cruz, and Carlos Macci were arrested on Wednesday by the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York (February 2).
They've been charged with conspiracy to distribute fentanyl analogue, fentanyl, and heroin, as well as possession with intent to distribute. In connection with the drugs conspiracy, Cartagena was also charged with causing the death of Michael K. Williams.
“Michael K. Williams, a prominent actor and producer, tragically overdosed in his New York City apartment from fentanyl-laced heroin,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a press release.
Cartagena supplied fentanyl-laced heroin to Michael K. Williams on September 5, 2021, according to the US Attorney's Office. Surveillance video captured the transaction.
Robles, Cruz, and Macci each face a required minimum of five years in jail and a maximum of 40 years in prison.
If Cartagena is found guilty of causing Michael K. Williams' death, he might face the same or even heavier punishment. He risks a minimum of 20 years in jail and a maximum of life in prison if convicted.
Michael K. Williams passed away on September 6, 2021. The acclaimed actor was 54.
