Jay-Z To Produce New Live-Action NETFLIX Graphic Novel Series

Written by: Khalif Thompson

Netflix is developing a live-action feature adaptation of the bestselling Boom! Studios comic series Irredeemable and its sister title Incorruptible, directed by BAFTA-winning The Harder They Fall filmmaker Jeymes Samuel, written by Oscar-nominated scribe Kemp Powers, and produced by Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter and James Lassiter.

Samuel will also be a producer. Carter and Lassiter will produce through their overall agreement at the streamer with Boom! Studios' Stephen Christy and Ross Richie. Executive producers will be Powers and Adam Yoelin.

In the graphic novel series, when the world's most powerful and adored superhero, the god-like Plutonian, mysteriously begins slaying everyone on Earth, his former arch-nemesis, the super-powered criminal Max Damage, is the only one who can stop him.

Max, unwillingly thrown into the position of rescuer, must investigate the Plutonian's secret background in order to figure out how to bring him down.

But will he be able to figure out what caused the Plutonian to go insane before his own degenerative superpowers force him to lose his mind?

Mark Waid (Kingdom Come) created Irredeemable, which was drawn by Peter Krause. Irredeemable is one of the most influential comic book series of all time, lasting 37 issues and selling over 1.5 million copies.

Incorruptible follows criminal Max Damage as he eventually transforms himself into a superhero in response to the Plutonian's wickedness. The sister series lasted 30 issues and sold more than one million copies.

Carter has sold over 125 million records and won 23 Grammy awards as a musician. Lassiter is the producer of I,Robot, I Am Legend, and Cobra-Kai, among other films and television shows.

Boom! Studios, which owns the biggest library of comic book and graphic novel IP outside of Marvel and DC Comics, just optioned the live-action feature picture version of Keanu Reeves' BRZRKR to Netflix.

Through its first-look TV arrangement, the business also has a number of projects at the OTT studio, including a live-action version of the hit comic book Something is Killing the Children starring Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy, as well as an animated rendition of Mech Cadets.

Mette Norkjaer will be in charge of the project for Boom!
