Today in Hip Hop News, we report the most unprecedented article yet. As society and technology becomes more complex and intelligent, sadly so do the treacherous hackers of the internet!
This week, hackers were at it again. On Tuesday (April 5), fans saw that a bunch of their favorite rappers' YouTube accounts had been targeted by attackers, who posted a series of odd videos to accounts belonging to A-list artists such as Drake, Kanye West, Eminem, Travis Scott, Juice WRLD, and others.
As speculation begin to occur, fans almost immediately begin to compile similarities and took to social media to seek answers behind why their favorite artists were posting “strange” and “weird” videos to their channels.
The bizarre videos have now been deleted, but screenshots linger on, and upload names such as "Free Paco Sanz (ft. Will Smith, Chris Rock, Skinny Slim, & Los Pelaos)" were seen on every account. Paco Sanz currently is spending the rest of his life in prison for scamming hundreds of people by claiming to have a fatal illness.
YouTube has yet to openly acknowledge the intrusion, however its music video partner VEVO has issued a statement about the security incident.
Other celebrities whose YouTube accounts were hijacked included Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Harry Styles, The Weeknd, Lil Nas X, and the late Michael Jackson.
Someone using the Twitter handle @lospelaosbro attempted to claim credit as the prime hacker, but such allegations remain unverified at this time. While fans were certainly confused, their favorite musicians' YouTube channels appear to have been returned to normal.
